New Police Facility

The City of Cotati's police facility
is the country's first "green" police
station to receive certification as a
U.S. Green Building Council's
L.E.E.D. certified building.

In August of 2002 bids were received for the construction of a new, state of the art police facility to replace the city's old and inadequate police facility which had been located in the rear of City Hall since 1971 occupying approximately 2,000 square feet. Construction began on the new facility in late 2002 and the police department moved in on September 3, 2003. The new police facility is approximately 11,933 square feet and it was designed to house the police department for the next 30 years or longer.

The new police facility was officially dedicated on October 17, 2003 when a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting ceremony were held. This ceremony was attended by various dignitaries from throughout the county as well as members of the local law enforcement community. Members of the community also attended and after the ceremony everyone was invited to take a tour of the facility.

As part of the Grand Opening Ceremony, the building was dedicated to Robert "Raz" Rasmussen for his 35 years of service to the community. Robert "Raz" Rasmussen began his service to our community on October 18, 1965 when he became a Reserve Police Officer. During his service he also served a two-year term as a City Councilman. He retired in 2000 from his position as a Reserve Police Officer having risen to the rank of Reserve Captain. Over his years of service, Reserve Captain Rasmussen provided over 30,000 hours of volunteer service and he played a part in shaping the police department into what it is today.

The City of Cotati, the Cotati City Council, and Chief Robert Stewart were honored to dedicate the new police facility as the Robert "Raz" Rasmussen Police Services Building for his unsurpassed service, loyalty and dedication to the City of Cotati.

We would also like to thank the Rancho Cotate High School Marching Band who performed at the Grand Opening ceremony and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department Color Guard for the presentation of the flags for the ceremony.

If you are ever in the area and have the time, stop in at the police department and ask for a tour.
